Faber & Faber are proud to announce a beautiful, full-color collection of the diaries and photographs of Karl Hyde, half of the pioneering electronic duo Underworld.
“Hyde proves himself an able and enigmatic writer with an intriguing and absorbing way of chronicling the world he finds himself in" – Loud and Quiet
In 1999, Karl Hyde began writing a public diary and has documented his thoughts, lyrical works-in-progress, poetry and biographical essays alongside found visuals. Interweaving a section of his entries with an autobiographical narrative, I Am Dogboy follows Hyde from childhood through the exploratory early years of Underworld, an electronic act who have been peerless for the last 25 years.
Spliced throughout the narrative are standalone/abstract poetic pieces that offer occasional snapshots of life on the road and in the studio. Furthermore, they give insight into Hyde’s singular style of lyric writing. A prolific artist, Hyde is one of the founding partners of influential design collective Tomato. I Am Dogboy is beautifully designed by John Warwicker – Hyde’s longtime collaborator and founder of the Tomato collective.
Karl Hyde is one half of Underworld, a pioneering electronic duo that has dominated the world and has been one of UK's most consistently acclaimed bands for the best part of three decades. Their most recent LP, Barbara Barbara, We Face A Shining Future, is their most successful since 1999 and has just received a Grammy Nominee for Best Dance/Electronic Album 2017.
