Had the pleasure of meeting this dynamic duo at the 2012 & 2013 Takeover Charleston @ The Sparrow in North Charleston, South Carolina. Melanie is master of multi-talents, serving as the lead vocals, drummer, and flute player. Rich lays down some serious guitar riffs and chords at various angles. Together they are a super sweet saucy special of indie with pop melodies. Currently touring the US by fan donations and support. The arrival of this year’s Ultra Music Festival brought in a heavy dose of rain throughout most of Friday morning. There was a lack of music along the strip of South Beach unless you passed by the extensive lines of restaurants gearing in people with local DJ’s and meal discounts. By the afternoon, the sun had shown bright over most of Miami’s landscape. On the way from breakfast we were lucky enough to run into a few Ultra headliners taking in the local cuisine…

This electronic duo came together to create a blend of jazz, lounge, trip-hop, world influences to inspire their 2006 album: Feels Closer. Track one, Life2Life featuring Green Velvet starts off the the right atmosphere to introduce this melting pot. It continues to build it self up with a light bass and electronic sound effects, without reaching it’s climax. Feels Closer featuring Mino Cinelu immediately grabs your attention with a fast pace of drum styles perfect for letting loose. Ride The Train takes you on a railroad of imaginative beats and bleeps in a more lounge environment. By far one of my favorites is Me & You featuring Tom Hutton. It’s slow jazz rhythm rings in the trumpet and low sax sound straight into vocals.
